The Brain is Driving

Standard

Many people fail to understand that losing weight STARTS in the mind.  Several of my clients have struggled recently with cravings, emotional eating, and other “roadblocks” that have derailed their progress on losing weight. They look for reasons to explain the lapses, blaming them on lack of will power, events beyond their control, etc.

The actual culprit is the mind.  When the mind is NOT engaged in building or changing a habit, then the habit doesn’t stick and despite good intentions, the body/person fails in reaching their goal.  The mind must be engaged in the process. It is the driver behind the wheel, the power behind the action. The body is just the luggage in the trunk of the car.

When building any habit, the process must first begin in the brain.

For example:  If you want to stop giving into cravings, you must:

1. Determine why you are having a craving.  Is it emotionally triggered, event triggered, or just a bad habit? Like eating ice cream while watching TV each evening after work.

2. Once you determine why you have a craving, you have to create a list of activities that will short circuit your craving. If you have a sudden craving for chocolate, instead of raiding your child’s Easter candy stash, put on some music and fold laundry, or take the dog for a walk, or leave the situation that is encouraging the craving (in this case, turn off the TV). Having a list of alternative reactions is a MUST!

3. When the craving hits, you have to follow through with the alternative choice. It’s not enough to just recognize the drive behind the craving. You have to actively short circuit it.

4. You must be consistent.  Within 21 days, you will have created a new, healthier habit and you will notice a marked decrease in craving “episodes”.

When you apply your mind and give it the power to change the body, there is nothing you can’t achieve.

Being a boy doesn’t have to be painful

Standard

I just want to share some amazing photos and a story with you that was shared with me by a friend this past year.
Her young son was out riding his bike and fell while going downhill on a gravelly road. He was pretty torn up as you can see from the photos and after a trip to the ER was told that there could be possible surgery to clean out the gravel.

Mom came to the rescue with essential oils, specifically the “Owie Spray”. This mom keeps a bottle of ‘Owie Spray’ (recipe below) to use for any kinds of cuts, scrapes, bumps and bruises. Her kids will run to use it whenever needed. The only treatment that he received after the ER was multiple applications of this spray – about 3 – 4 times per day. This little guy was not on any pain medication either.

Here’s the recipe:
1- A 2 oz glass bottle (Oils are best used in glass)
2- The oils – 10 to 20 drops of each:
-Frankincense – the miracle oil – a wonderful anti inflammatory and great for trauma.
-Lavender – gentle enough for kids and sensitive skin issues like burns, cuts or abrasions , also calming so it’s a great idea to diffuse or let the child smell the oil as well.
-Melaleuca – documented to kill many bacteria, viruses, and fungi on contact so it is excellent for cuts, wounds, burns, and anywhere that bacteria might be found. It has a historical use as an antiseptic for the face, skin disorders including acne, and dandruff as well.
3- Filled the rest of the way with Fractionated coconut. This oil has been defatted and purified so it is shelf stable, not as greasy and a wonderful carrier oil for times like these. Also great for massage!
We now keep a bottle stocked in our house as well! I love the incredible healing power of Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils!

AMAZING! this picture is just what 5 days of consistent oil usage can do.

Desperate, Depressed, Sick, and Ready for Change

Standard

Adrene’s story: Before I found this program, I was desperate, depressed and on 13 pills in the morning, 11 in the afternoon and 8 at night. I had diabetes, fibromyalgia, bi-polar disorder, Sjrogens disease, two heart attacks and high blood pressure all because of my weight. Thanks to the weight loss, I no longer carry my medicine bag around!

adrene's weight loss story

When I started, I weighed 310 pounds and wore a 24-26W in dresses. Now, I weigh 133 pounds and wear a size 6-8. I look outstanding!

I had tried other diets before and they weren’t successful. I would gain 2-3 times more once I stopped the diet. Some programs even turned me down because they said I was too overweight and they couldn’t help me! However, this program has been a miracle. I have maintained my weight loss for two years now, and not only do I look great but I feel remarkable!

Turning from an Unhealthy Path

Standard

Aaron from 263 pounds to 188 pounds:
In my early 20s I was in really good shape, but after I started working full time I lost all ambition for working out. I would eat fast food almost daily for lunch, and even had more days than I wish to count where I had it for lunch and dinner. I was in a chair eight hours a day and after work would just go home and eat dinner and watch TV. In November of 2010, I found this program and I haven’t looked back. I dropped around 30 pounds my first 6 weeks. Once I began to see my body changing it kept the fire alive and pushed me even harder. Now, I have 20 times the energy I used to have. At my heaviest just playing nine holes of golf, even with a cart, would make me tired for the rest of the day. I can run around all day and rarely get tired. I’m so thankful I finally committed to doing this now, because I was going down an unhealthy path that could have led anywhere.aaron's weight loss story

Oil Me Up, Baby…

Standard

Two and a half years ago, I began a journey towards optimal health.  I went from 206 pounds and a size 18 to 140-145 pounds and a size 10.  I made this miraculous change in just 4 1/2 short months. And yes, it was a healthy loss and I have kept it off and I feel amazing.

My world changed! The drop in weight took me off medications for high blood pressure and took away the fear of developing full blown diabetes (something my doctor kept hounding me about). It also eased my asthma so that I didn’t have to use my emergency inhaler so often.

A few months later, my daughter fell ill and we took another step towards optimal health.  We got rid of commercial cleaners, soaps, personal hygiene goods and went green.  It helped and my daughter improved but she still was not completely healthy. Her doctors’ visits and days missed at school continued to accumulate.

A little over a year ago, my journey took a giant leap forward.  I was introduced to essential oils and our world changed! Who could have guessed that simple oils could so drastically change our lives for the better.  I didn’t believe they could be ultra effective. Boy, was I wrong.

pouring_oilOils have overtaken my medicine cabinet, my vanity, and my cleaning closet. But I am mostly excited about what they have done for my family’s health.

Before I started the rest of the family on oils, I used myself as the guinea pig.  I started with eucalyptus and frankincense to treat my asthma. Within a couple of weeks, I was no longer suffering with the occasional attack.  In fact, it’s now been over 8 months since I had an asthma prescription refilled.  I’ve tossed them all. ☺

It wasn’t long before we were using oils to combat acne, headaches, pinched nerves, PMS, cramping, you know, the little aches and pains that seem to invade our lives regularly. But we were just dabbling in oils.  I was converted yet.

Then, about four months ago,  my daughter’s illness (which doctors couldn’t even put a name to) took a nasty turn and she began to drop weight, suffer from excruciating migraines, had continuous abdominal pain and nausea, had severe lethargy, and couldn’t taste anything.  Despite a myriad of prescriptions, labs, tests, and procedures, western medicine couldn’t make her better or even determine a cause. We were stumped.  Oils came to the rescue again.

My daughter’s symptoms didn’t fit any one illness but they all showed up under various autoimmune diseases.  We decided that since oils could not harm her, we’d try treating her for a blanket autoimmune disease. We developed a regime of oils to be taken internally and externally twice a day and crossed our fingers. We also added liquid chlorophyll and black walnut extract infusions in the off chance that we were dealing with a parasite.

Each morning, my daughter consumes 18 drops of chlorophyll, 10 drops of black walnut extract, 8 drops of an oil blend which consists of frankincense, wild orange, lemongrass, thyme, summer savory, niaouli, and clove, and 1 drop of an oil blend that contains clove bud, grapefruit peel, rosemary leaf, and geranium flower. She downs all this in 8 ounces of fat-free milk.

Each night, she consumes another 10 drops of black walnut extract, and 4 capsules each of a mega vitamin. I mix these into a chocolate ice cream shake as she has such a severe gag reflex that prohibits her from swallowing pills.  The taste isn’t great but we apply a drop of a digestive essential oil blend to her throat and she’s able to keep both concoctions down.

Then, in the evening, the external application begins. Each night, before she goes to bed, I apply 8 different oils to her back; Lavender to help her relax, melaleuca to help strengthen her immune system, four oil blends to help reduce inflammation, and Peppermint and Wild Orange to balance her autonomic system. Then we apply 2 drops of another calming oil blend to the soles of her feet to help her sleep and another two drops of the digestive oil blend to her abdomen.

We have been doing this for a month now.  The migraines have almost disappeared. She is getting back her sense of taste, she isn’t as tired and the afternoon 3 hour naps have ceased, and she’s feeling less nauseous and has put on 3 pounds (that’s a BIG deal when your 5’11” and your weight is 106). The abdominal pain has also lessened.

Is she healed yet? No.

Is she out of the woods? Not quite yet.

However, we are seeing daily improvement.  She is back at school and my normally cheerful and very sociable daughter is back. I don’t expect an overnight cure. It took weeks for her illness to get as bad as it did.  It will take just as long to be cured.

We are converted! Green living, organic, clean, and healthy eating, and essential oils as medicine, and life sustaining necessities are now are daily routine. The medical community couldn’t help us. God’s wonderful natural remedies could. Thank heavens for my daughter’s wonderful Gastro-Intestinal physician who supported our decision to try natural remedies.  Our experience with western medicine could have been very difficult without his supporting us.

Our journey to optimal health isn’t complete. Not by a long shot. We are just beginning. As I learn more and find new applications for essential oils in my life, I’ll post about them here.  As a matter of fact, we just had a round of the flu strike our home.  I’ll blog about that later.

For now, I’m off to see my beautiful daughter teach a dance class.  Yep, she’s on the road to recovery.
